Qasidah is a form of poetry. It is a remembrance of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and God (Allah SWT). The Arabs were one of the nations that appreciated Poetry even before the conning of Islam.
One of the traditions of the Arabs would come to Mecca for business and gathering and presenting their poetry to the public.
